Building Awareness
Everything humans do and experience evolves around some kind of story. It’s how we contextualize information and process experiences to generate meaning in our lives. This project’s brief included interviewing a peer and designing an orihon-style folding booklet to visualize the interviewee’s unique personality and experiences with water, growth, nature, and community.
My interviewee was Maryam Elkadi, and from our conversation, I learned of her experiences facing fear through cliff-diving, how her introverted nature helped her through pandemic isolation, and how in the reopening from that isolation Maryam was finding ways to be more involved in her community both at the university we were attending at the time and in her mosque. We also discussed the anxiety she faces each day and the physical formats through which nature reveals itself to her.
