Big Retired Life
A blog and digital community for retirees and those nearing retirement to solidify their goals and find valuable resources to help them into the next stage of their lives.
The process of creating this logo began with a page of digital sketches based on an initial design I created. Diana Sunshine, Big Retired Life’s founder, wanted her last name to be the main motif of the logo. The sunshine element also works well with the theme of retirement because many people perceive retirement as a sunset period of life, but Big Retired Life’s goal is to keep that sun shining brightly for as long as possible.
From my initial sketches, we decided on a few options for me to iterate upon further and then selected the final direction for the brand. After some further refinement, the Sunshine logo has been serving Big Retired Life well for nearly a year now. The vertical orientation of the half sun stays consistent with the message of the sun shining bright, and the “full sun” brandmark has been especially useful in smaller applications such as the blog’s favicon.
Current
How can we inspire the use of existing processes and technologies with the current generation in order to ensure the diversity of life on Earth to come?
This branding was created in collaboration with my classmates at San Jose State University, Brian Stezo, Sai H Liu, Mymy Phan, and Areli Ponce Ibarra for a project in the BA Senior Design Project class, Our concept was to create a facility that educates food producers on the most efficient ways to irrigate their crops and utilize the water resources they are allocated. Current and its educational greenhouse center are our answer.
Our brandmark began as a page of sketches from each of us as we envisioned how Current might present itself to the world. From pages of concepts we chose two options to develop further, one a pictorial mark, the other a wordform (this one was based on one of my sketches). From there the brandmark fruther developed into the final version you find below. This encapsulates Current’s openess to already developing or growing technologies and our hope abour the future of farming.
